John Humphrys to give up farming
ONE of the Britain’s highest profile ‘celebrity farmers’ has decided to pack it in because he admits he feels like an ‘amateur’.
John Humphrys, the presenter of BBC Radio 4’s Today programme and Mastermind, is to sell his Carmarthenshire farm, according to a report in the Telegraph.
“I was an amateur, it was an enormous strain, but I did get immense satisfaction. I realised it wasn’t the life for me,” he is quoted as saying.
It is reported that Mr Humphrys, a passionate supporter of organic farming who acts as an unofficial ambassador for the Soil Association, is selling the farm and 16 acres for £265,000.
He purchased the 134-acre holding, complete with milking machinery and 100 cows, back in the 1970s as a ‘farming experiment’, the paper reports.
