Deer Commission to merge with SNH
THE Deer Commission for Scotland and Scottish Natural Heritage are to merge from July 1.
The two bodies, whose merger has been ratified by the Scottish Parliament, already have their headquarters in the same building in Inverness.
Environment Minister Roseanna Cunningham described it as a ‘sensible move’, which would combine the strengths of both organisations.
She said the merger would help simplify Scotland’s public service landscape and build on the ‘excellent’ work carried out by the Deer Commission to improve the sustainable management of wild deer in Scotland.
The move is part of the Scottish Government’s plans to abolish or merge a number of public organisations in Scotland.
The Deer Commission for Scotland – a non-departmental public body – was formed in 1996 to succeed the Red Deer Commission, while Scottish Natural Heritage, a Government body, was established in 1992.
