David Jones wins NSA award
DAVID Jones, the recently retired Welsh and Southern England regional manager for the British Wool Marketing Board (BWMB), has won the 2009 George Hedley Memorial award.
The National Sheep Association’s (NSA) annual award, which takes the form of a Cheviot Sheep, is given to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the sheep industry. It is made following a lengthy proposal and voting process involving organisations from across the sheep sector.
Mr Jones received the prestigious award from Welsh Minister for Rural Affairs Elin Jones at a recent NSA-organised industry dinner in Wales.
NSA council chairman Jonathan Barber said: “David Jones has given so much to the Welsh and indeed UK sheep industry over many years through his work for the BWMB, so it is very fitting that NSA comes to his homeland to present him with this award.”
NSA President Lord Plumb presided over the event which moved to Wales this year from its usual venue in London and was sponsored by the BWMB.
