Senior NFU official moves to FDF

ONE of the NFU’s most senior officials is leaving the union to become the Food and Drink Federation’s (FDF) director of communications.

Terry Jones, who has worked for the NFU for nine years and has only just been appointed its director of corporate affairs, is set to join the FDF in April.

He takes over from Julian Hunt, who leaves the FDF in February to join Coca Cola Enterprises GB as vice president for public affairs and communications.

Mr Jones’ appointment completes a neat circle as the Coca Cola Enterprises job  became available when Erika Coghlan, who was its vice president of corporate affairs, joined the NFU as its director of communications.

Mr Jones had held the role of acting director of communications in the months prior to Ms Coghlan’s appointment.

FDF director general Melanie Leech said she was ‘delighted’ to welcome Mr Jones to the FDF, which describes itself as the ‘voice of the UK food and drink manufacturing sector’.

“His skills and experience working within the food chain make him ideally suited to help FDF continue to champion the vital contribution of our sector,” she said.

Mr Jones said: “I have always enjoyed working with FDF, admiring the professionalism of its staff and the results it achieves on behalf of its members.”

Tom Hind, currently head of economics and international affairs at NFU, will replace Mr Jones as director of corporate affairs in the union’s London office.

The NFU has also announced a number of new appointments at its Stoneleigh Park head office.

Current head of food and farming Kevin Pearce has been promoted to director of regions and is replaced by Philip Hudson, who has been its chief horticultural adviser since 2003.

Terry Abbott has been appointed as the new director of membership and business services.

NFU Director General Kevin Roberts said: “I think these appointments show the depth of talent and experience within the NFU and I look forward to working with all four individuals in their very important roles.”

  • Good afternoon,

Would you be so kind as to give me the National Head office mailing address along with the name of the Director of Communications as we are in the process of making a contact list for one of our departments (Nutrients for Life Foundation) for their outreach letters.

    Kind regards,

    Kim
