New event to promote food and farming
A NEW two-day event to promote farming, food production and the countryside to the general public is being planned for next year by the Royal Northern Agricultural Society.
The event, announced at the society’s annual meeting, will be hosted by Dunecht Estate, Dunecht, Aberdeen, and will be held next June with the first day aimed at the public and the second day designed to attract school visits.
Retiring president Raymond Smith said two major events – Crop Tech at Oldmeldrum, and the annual Spring Show at Thainstone – had made a combined £21,087 surplus this year, compared with £9,159 the previous year.
New president of the society is John McIntosh, Dyce, who is also chairman of farmers’ co-operatives, ANM Group and Aberdeen Grain.
The new vice-president is Ian Wilson, Torphins, with SAC lecturer, Jim Marr, being elected junior-vice president. Secretary, Alison Argo, Laurencekirk, was re-appointed secretary and treasurer.
