New active in blight fight

TWO new blight fungicides now available in the UK are based on an active ingredient from a totally new class of chemistry.

Resplend and Decabane contain the active ingredient Initium, which belongs to the pyrimidylamine chemical group. The common chemical name of the active ingredient is ametoctradin.

“Ametoctradin is a highly effective protectant fungicide. It prevents disease by inhibiting the infectious stages of the pathogen, through preventing zoospore formation, release and motility and through direct effects on the germination of sporangia,” says BASF potato product manager, Rob Storer.

“It will play a useful role in preventing both foliar and tuber blight.”

The two new approved products will be test-marketed in the UK this year.
