Mammoths return to the UK to take national 'wheat art' prize
A LINCOLNSHIRE farmer scooped a £5,000 prize after he created a family of mammoths on his farm using wheat bales.
Taking the top prize in the Weetabix Wheat Art competition, Paul Grant beat off stiff competition from nine other regional winners including Humpty Dumpty, Noah’s Ark and the Loch Ness Monster to take the national title.
The sculpture, ‘Manny the Mammoth and Family’, was created by Paul with help from his wife and the local community in Boston, Lincolnshire.
The UK-wide competition ran in conjunction with the NFU to encourage farmers to have some fun and use their artistic flair to celebrate the harvest.
Ken Wood, chief executive officer of Weetabix said: “We were very impressed by the sheer originality and effort from the entrants this year.
“The sculpture of the family of mammoths really stood out, capturing the spirit of the competition perfectly.”
