Farmers offered subsidised Glastir advice
FARMERS in Wales who are unsure about signing up for the Welsh Assembly Government’s new Glastir land management scheme can now get subsidised professional help.
The Assembly-funded Farming Connect business development service can offer an 80 per cent subsidy on the cost of mentoring and advice.
“While consultants cannot be used to fill in the actual forms, they can be used for mentoring, advice and guidance,” says Farmers Union of Wales land use and parliamentary committee chairman, Richard Vaughan.
“We welcome this step as the union has been pushing for the service to be more pro-active in helping farmers access Glastir.
“Farming Connect cannot fund consultants to complete Glastir applications on behalf of farmers but it can help in points calculation for the scorecard and advise or mentor on the impact and management options a business could consider.
“The available advice also includes the assessment of habitats, species, biodiversity, historical features on the farm and their appropriate management.”
Details of how to access the advice is available from Farming Connect, which is running a series of Glastir training events across Wales throughout July, August and September.
