Grassland contest winner
THE winner of the British Grassland Society national grassland management competition was Emyr Jones from Rhosygwaliau, Bala, north Wales.
Mr Jones, the deputy president of the Farmers Union of Wales, runs a beef and sheep farm with his sons Aled and Dylan. Nearly all the grass on the farm is on land reclaimed from bracken, gorse and scrub over the past 30 years. High quality ryegrass and clover swards are managed to optimise intakes and regrowth through stocking rates and sward height control. Runners-up were David Helliar from Warminster, Wiltshire, and Richard Abell of Little Cowarne, Bromyard.
