Food gets a taste of limelight
THE annual British Food Fortnight, which has been running since 2002, has received a massive boost this year, with, for the first time, all the major supermarkets getting involved.
The event, organised by Love British Food, and to be staged from September 19 to October 4, is pulling out all the stops to champion British food.
The major supermarkets are running special British promotions, eight of the UK’s largest food service organisations are running special menus, and six major pub groups are also taking part.
Demonstrations
Morrisons supermarket is having Best of British activities in all its stores, including food preparation demonstrations and in-store food tasting; Asda will have special offers on 100 local lines; Tesco will have special promotions with sampling of locally-sourced products; and Sainsbury’s is launching British classic ready meals and a British autumn roasts campaign.
In addition, famous names such as Wembley Stadium, the Cabinet Office, the BBC, John Lewis, the National trust and The Archers, will also be supporting the event.
