Farmers in favour of system
Wexford finisher John Bailey supplies at least 1,000 cattle a year into Kepak and says he is happier with the VIA system on the line than a manual grader.
“In general, I think the system is a lot fairer than individual graders and I know some people believe that if a producer happened to have ‘issues’ with an individual on the grading line, you could be taken to the cleaners.”
“Sure enough we were frightened of it at first, but I would say there is no need for anyone to be and I think it is the way forward.
“I do not really know anyone who is still against it although some farmers think the factory can ‘adjust’ the system, but they tell us not.”

BETTER late than never is a phrase which seems oddly appropriate when applied to British farming at the moment.
