Farmers call for explanation as police close party
YOUNG farmers have appealed for an explanation after police closed down their flagship AGM fancy dress party hours before it was due to finish.
The superhero-themed party, attended by an estimated 4,500 people, ended abruptly after police asked members to vacate the Winter Gardens venue in central Blackpool.

The police gave no reason for their actions, and there had been no reports of any trouble in the venue.
NFYFC leaders have now appealed to the police to explain why they closed the party, stressing that organisers and management at the venue had experienced 'no problems' throughout the evening.
NFYFC chairman Bryce Mackellar said: "The police came and took charge of the building at 12 o’clock and we had to close. It was felt there was no problem with security or management in place and we will make a strong appeal to the police and really find out what was the problem."
NFYFC chief executive James Eckley said: "The Police Licencing Officer took control for a short period of time at the venue on Saturday night and insisted the bars were closed."
"It is my opinion, the Winter Garden's management team, security and the YFC team properly and safely managed the event and all three parties will be making the strongest representations possible to the police for a full explanation."
Mr Mackellar confirmed the venue would remain open on Sunday evening (May 3) and the event would 'carry on as usual'.
