Campaigner of the year

CLAIR Powell is the winner of the FG Campaigner of the Year competition for the immense amount of work she has done to further the aims of the campaign.

A farmer’s wife from Builth Wells, Powys, Clair collected 672 signatures at local shows and events for our petition as well as lobbying AMs and MPs; writing to HRH Prince Charles, Defra, the Local Health Board, her local Council and the Ministry of Defence; making public speeches and writing about the campaign in her local newspaper.

In addition, she also raised the issue of Fair Trade for British Farmers during a visit to the European Parliament with young farmers to lobby MEPs Jonathan Evans and Neil Parrish.

Discussing her own views on the campaign, she said in her entry: “The pressure being dealt to farmers is immense. We would love for our children to carry on farming when they are old enough and unless farmers are paid a fair price for their produce, then I can see more and more people leaving the agricultural industry.”

Clair wins £1,000 cash and £250 of vouchers towards a luxury weekend break for two.

Dissapointingly, there were no entries for the other section of the competition – FG Junior Campaign of the Year.
