Beef Expo 2009: Limousin cross is a real beauty
THE commercial cattle section of the national spring spectacular show was won by a British Blue cross Limousin heifer, Black Beauty, from Tecwyn Jones, Llanrwst, Conwy.
The heifer, born in June 2008 and weighing 427kg, was bought privately from breeder Trefor Jones of Caernarfon, who was also the breeder of Tecwyn Jones’ champion at Beef Expo 2007. The heifer is by the British Blue bull – Netherwood Umpire.
Reserve went to a Limousin cross steer, Priceless, exhibited by Phil and Sharon Sellers who bought it for £5,000 at Ruthin earlier this year from breeder Alan Powell, Welshpool. The Sellers’, Belper, Derbyshire, plan to take the Grievepark Nulan-sired steer to the Royal Show.
Christine Williams and Paul Tippets swept the floor in the pedigree section taking the championship and reserve prizes with entries from the Wilodge herd at Shifnal, Shropshire.
The championship went to the May 2008-born heifer Wilodge Diamante and reserve was the July 2008-born bull Wilodge Dallaglio. Both were by Wilodge Vantastic.

BETTER late than never is a phrase which seems oddly appropriate when applied to British farming at the moment.
