UNITED Dairy Farmers auction on Thursday, August 2, saw a top of 38.5ppl and a total of 27 million litres averaged 34.66ppl.Three-month contract milk, of which 24 million litres sold, averaged 34.31ppl and one month (3 million litres) 37.49ppl. By comparison, last year’s equivalent sale delivered an overall average of 18.42ppl while last month, the average was 28.72ppl.

Suffolk ram lamb returning to its sire’s roots fetches £28,566 at Roscrea

ALTHOUGH foot-and-mouth movement restrictions hit the confidence of some GB buyers at the premier sale of Suffolks at Roscrea Mart in the Republic of Ireland, the top priced ram lamb at €40,000gns (£28,556) will, ultimately, return to its sire’s North Wales origin with Myfyr Evans when the all-clear is given.

Tesco milk all-Welsh in Wales

TESCO is sharing out its milk supply contracts. From this week, Tesco shoppers in Wales can buy ‘standard’ fresh milk sourced from a dedicated group of Welsh farmers. This is under Tesco’s £25million ‘Direct Deal’ initiative which pays producers 22ppl.
