AMONG many major changes the Government has announced to reduce the budget deficit has been the phasing in of a universal credit to replace most benefits. Although seen as a good thing, as it will introduce a lower withdrawal rate than currently exists with the collection of benefits available now, it will not cater for self-employed people well, according to Rob Hitch, partner with Dodd and Co Chartered Accountants.
