Ball of Madley Ltd has been supplying UK agriculture with salt products for over 30 years.  The small family run company has reduced its product range and now focuses 100% on its core product,  B.O.M Himalayan Red Rock Salt.

The company is based in Hereford, where we carry stocks of over 500t of salt all stored in a warehouse facility. Deliveries are made using a small truck and trailer for local deliveries or Pallet line for 3 day delivery nationwide.

Donkey Friendly salt:
To ensure that the salt we import from the Himalayas, does not in any way contribute to animal / child cruelty,  in 2006 and 2009 visits were made to the mines to ensure that no child labour is used mining the salt.  And that no donkeys are used in the transportation of the salt. 

The Benefit Of Salt

A 550 million year old source of minerals and trace elements for your livestock/horses. Mined from the vast and ancient Himalayan mountains, these salt licks must be the purest form of salt available. The distinctive rose pink colour comes from the salts mineral content, such as iron, potassium and magnesium, which are all vital for maintaining health.

Mass produced salt licks are produced using salt with minerals added in the manufacturing process. Himalayan rock salt licks are literally 'rock hard’, this means that livestock and horses are unable to bite chunks off the block, a problem that can occur with the softer ’pressed’ salt licks.

These licks are also much more weather resistant and will not dissolve into a mush when left out in the rain, which means they can be safely left outside in the field for horses or cows to ‘self dose’. Our experience has shown that horses and cows do prefer these to other salt licks.

Cows/sheep/goats and horses all have a very well defined appetite for sodium chloride (SALT) only surpassed by the need for water.  Because the majority of plants do not provide sufficient sodium for the livestock/horses needs and may lack adequate chloride, salt supplementation is a vital part of any animal’s nutritional requirement.

Product Range

The main benefit of our red salt is the fact that it is ‘rock hard’, and withstands being left out in the elements, much better than softer white/grey salt from other parts of the world.  Also, if the salt is purchased in lots of 250kg and greater, we are able to supply the salt in larger lumps i.e. 15-25kg lumps; these are much easier to place out in the field or in the manger.  Salt supplied in 25kg bags have 4/5 lumps per bag, hence smaller lumps of 3/8 kg.
